It's time to get dirty in the kitchen!! I can't believe there wasn't a general cooking thread.... Right now we are working on some bread. Devnill pre-made a huge batch of dough that we've been keeping in the fridge. Whenever you want a loaf of bread you get a bunch of flour on your hands, cut a chunk off about the size of a grapefruit, form the edges into a ball, place it on a pizza peel or cutting board with a layer of corn meal so it doesn't stick, and finally dust the top with a bit of flower. Now that you've done all that, you have a chance to take a break and write a post on the forums. Wait 20 minutes and then turn the oven on to 450F. It helps to use a thermometer and verify the internal temperature of your oven is actually 450 instead of blindly trusting it. Wait another 20 minutes after turning the oven on, for a total rise time of 40-45 mins. Make a couple slices in the top of the loaf and dust it a bit more if the top looks moist. Then put a cup of water in a pan on the bottom rack of the oven. This will add moisture into the oven to make the bread more crusty, but don't peek while the bread is cooking or all the humidity will escape! Gently flop the loaf from the cutting board onto a pan or stone in the oven. Avoid picking it up, you don't want to pop all those bubbles! Use a knife to scrape it off the cutting board if necessary. Bake for 30 minutes. Then you have delicious bread! I'll poke devnill until he posts the actual dough recipe on here, lol. | (https://wiki.wetfish.net/upload/3e111749-29a8-6373-b63a-5abe8b62164a.jpg) |
