imagine you meet online, this really hot girl from the anhui province in china, she makes you feel good about working to be a better person, and she comes over on a 90-day visa and you hit it off and go to seaworld and then you get married
she's on a path to citizenship, but her family's in danger in china because some people with guns hate them, but they can't come over to the US for another 6 years because of our slow immigration process
in this scenario, doesn't our current immigration regime seem lame?

this sounds like a great way to avoid dealing with shitty in-laws, don't change a thing. then if you divorce, what is she gonna do - go back to china? heh!
great system for trapping someone into loving you forever imo!

this is why we should have open borders, to avoid power imbalances

there are shitty situations and less shitty situations
for example my grandparents left china to do minimum wage labor in america cleaning hotels and working in a tortilla factory
they still preferred america over china and wanted to stay
