Title: We need to expand our tech tree
Post by: rachel on March 08, 2019, 06:46:15 pm
Wetfish needs more doctors and chemists and stuff like that. We've got plenty of computer nerds.
What can we do to get more people from other fields interested in the community?

Why would doctors and chemists come here though? What do they get out of hanging out with a bunch of computer nerds? I'll try to get my chemist friend Shanna and her mech-engineer boyfriend Collin involved, but I need some way to meet you guys up in person so they can understand how cool and interesting wetfish is.

That's exactly what I want to figure out. How do we incentivize people from other fields to get involved?
And sure, are they local Denver people?

Where do I get one of those T-shirts in the video? Or, many?

Did they join and not like what they saw or did they not even bother? Did they have some excuse? Like... "Oh, but I use discord"?

awhile back i worked with particle physics scientists in high school, and we sifted through higgs boson candidates, i think any person that works with massive amounts of data would have an interest coming here, or at least asking for our help, and then we could maybe eventually get them to join us.

How do we, as a society, get more people like Leonardo da Vinci?
He predicted the movement of blood the inside the heart 500 years before anyone else.

Probably make the wetfish community interfaces more accessible to people who aren't computer nerds. The website chat is a great start. I think IRC can be overwhelming to normies - after two years of relying on group chats and discord, irc is suddenly claustrophobic (to me).

Does a bike nerd and electrical engineer help?

Befriend people in those fields and show them how dope wet fish it. I'm not a chemist or any of that, but you got me here and I'm in the social work field. You'll probably see me posting about mutual aid, direct action, social justice, and various trainings on deescalation/etc. (i.e social work related topics) Are there any other social worl folks in this community?
