I was expecting this piece to be another hack job aimed at an easy target, touting easily digested cliches. Instead I found the article had deeper and more nuanced view point than is ordinarily available. Yes we all know regressive perspectives are bad (well, anyone who might be reading Vox in the first place knows this), but rarely do we get a hint at how the mechanics play out and poison our society.

TVs emit a tone during ad breaks that are inaudible to humans but that smartphones are listening for; now corporate entities can link the tv & phone as belonging to the same person. It means govt entities can play a tone thru the TV & ping all the phones in the room, identifying the whole group. The 5G and insect article seems kind of week. It doesn't provide or explain evidence that high frequency radio signals affect insect populations. It could, I suppose, but I think it's astro terfing.

Um? It links to this Nature article which explains how frequencies above 6 GHz are absorbed by insects enough to raise their body temperature. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-22271-3
