Is this racist?

It seems as though the way that people use the word "racism" has shifted over the past 5 years or so.  It used to be that racism was a synonym of bigotry or prejudice.  This is the definition that I grew up with and that I use in everyday speech (I don't find myself discussing racism everyday, but, well you know what I mean).  Now when (certain) people say racist, they tend to mean exploiting a system of racial inequality.  Something like that. 

I don't know why this change came about, but I realized that you could exploit peoples without caring about what races were involved one way or another, so it makes a certain amount of sense.

So next time someone says that you can't be racist against white people, say, "well maybe so, but what you're is doing racial bigotry which makes you just as bad."  Then invite them to eat shit and choke on it.

Are the terms "blacklist" and "whitelist" racist?

It comes from academia, specifically prejudice plus power. Academia is also the only explanation I have for this definition suddenly becoming really popular among certain people lately, but I really don't know for sure. All I know is if you go into a conversation where people are using the "prejudice" definition of racism and start using this new definition, you're basically looking for a fight.

I was playing a video game yesterday and this person showed up saying he wanted to kill all white parents and business owners. I said he was being racist but he replied "nah u cant be racist to white ppl"

First off, there is a lotta misinterpretation about racism, like the difference between racism, colorism, and ethnicity. Racism is not based in biology, its based in systemic social, societal, and structural systems. Ethnicity is of ones culture and colorism is based on the melanin resulting in variation of skin color. Therefore, someones "race," is based in the social oppression one faces due to the color of their skin in contrast with the ethnicity they hold. (Ex. An east asian individual unuquely faces race based oppression, on the basis of their east asian identity.) Racism is rooted in white supremacy culture, therefore one cannot uphold the pillars of racism upon a white person. (At least that's what they teach in social work). In otherwords, because white people as the dominant identity benifit from racist structures because of being white, systemically, you can't be racist against white people.

It's important to also recognize the misconception of racism and colorism. A lot of people confuse racism with colorism. Additionally, the difference between rascism and prejudice. Racism is a systemic structure, a social structure, not based in biology, but based in culture and oppression. This is very important, because this misconception is actually what props is racism today. The whole idea that, "the civil rights era moved us past racism," just isn't true. Because, it was never entirely about colorism, it was about the systemic structures rooted in white supremacy that prop up white people and disadvantage bipoc folks.

Understanding this answers the question. No, you cannot be racist towards a white person. However, being oppressive or discriminating towards a white person's white identity can be prejudice. In this case, that person is prejudice against white people, not rascist. This distinction is not only important to understand for language purposes, but also for liberation as we seek to dismantle the pillars of oppression and squash white supremacy culture all together.

Lastly, there is difference between structural, institutional, and interpersonal rascism. However, I'll let you learn about that through the content below.
