So how do we keep this momentum going? I mean... it's probably just a matter of time until my capacity for coral fades.
I think the best things we can do would be:
- try to get more programmers involved to improve the forums
- try to get more artists involved to make more items
what could a programmer add to the forums that makes more people want to use it
In the short term there are some convenience features that would be helpful, like automatically caching images instead of needing people to manually upload them to the wiki first.
The ability for people to customize their threads, like add a custom background image if you're the thread OP. It would also be helpful if there was an appeals process for thread bans, so people could ask to be unbanned (or pay a bribe to be unbanned)
The admin interface for adding new items also needs to be improved.
In the long term we should probably completely rewrite the forums to use custom software instead of hacking a bunch of features into SMF. The forrum project was originally made by Justin, who is no longer an active member of the community.
I saw some caching image proxy before I think it was this one
https://github.com/willnorris/imageproxyI thought it wouldn't be too hard to get the forums to use it. But at the time the forums was dead and nobody posted here
