Day 1 - Wednesday, July 11th

Drove from Ft. Collins to Omaha today. Driving through eastern Colorado really puts into perspective how much of a desert it is.

Nothing for hours besides dead grass. The most notable event was I drove by somebody's front yard which was on fire. Presumably somebody flicked a cigarette out of their window or something. Basically the entire yard was gone, including a wooden fence. A firetruck just arrived on the scene as I passed by.

Middle of nowhere is right.

Arrived in Omaha around 6:30 PM and got a room at a crappy little motel. Since I'm in Omaha visiting one of our partner companies, I put the room on the Wetfish company card. Thanks guys!

Day 2 - Thursday, July 12th

Woke up at 6:30 am, took a shower, then went into the office in Omaha. Hung out there for a couple hours. Had some coffee, talked about the cool new features in the CMS they use, and played some mini-basketball.

At about 10 AM I started driving to Minneapolis and around noon I stopped for lunch on the way in Des Moines to met up with one of my dad's friends.

The view of Des Moines

If you want an idea of what it's like to drive through Nebraska and Iowa... corn. Corn as far as the eye can see, and also the occasional wind farm spanning over the horizon.

This picture doesn't even do it justice. There were hundreds of wind turbines as far as the eye can see.

The weather was beautiful all day and then as I approached Minneapolis the sky went black.

I was planning on going out for dinner with Hyrulean, Tom, and Slimemaid but the rain threw a wrench into those plans. Apparently nobody expected the torrential downpour, I saw quite a few people running home with their clothes completely drenched. After waiting out the storm for a couple hours Hyrulean and I went over to his friend's house where we spent the night watching internet videos and playing video games. They even managed to convince me to install league of legends on my windows computer.

Day 3 - Friday, July 13th

Around midnight T-Dawg asked if anybody was hungry for a snack. He offered to make rice and kimchi wraps and then proceeded to pick some leaves off of some random plants in his back yard.

I refused to eat it until we figured out what plant it was. He told me the common name and I looked it up on Wikipedia. Turns out it's called Perilla frutescens or Korean Perilla, a broad leafed member of the mint family. We stayed up until 4 AM playing League of Legends and Wormax.io. Woke up at 9:00 AM to drive T-Dawg to work.

Turns out T-Dawg works at Vapes.com and I bought some MDE merch straight from the source.

After that, Hyrulean, Tom, and I all went out for breakfast and then I went over to Tom's house and we worked on some code together. Tom has this super cute rescue kitten named Otis! He had to bust a hole in his neighbor's garage to rescue him.

Around 7 PM I left Tom's house to go meet up with Slimemaid. She was so cute, oh my gosh. She looked like a big powerful anime woman, like Satsuki from Kill La Kill. She obviously spent a decent amount of time on her hair, makeup, outfit, and accessories. She was wearing a cherry patterned dress with white leggings, red nail polish, and cherry earrings--everything matched.

When I pulled up at her apartment I rolled down my window and holla'd at her "ayo girl you lookin fine, wanna go for a ride?"

Then we went out for dinner and then had some drinks at a gay bar. It was great!

Day 4 - Saturday, July 14th

Slept at Slimemaid's house, took a shower in the morning, had pizza for breakfast, then started driving to Wisconsin around 12:30 PM. After crossing the state line half of all the billboards were for cheese. They really like cheese in Wisconsin. I'd heard that was a thing, but experiencing it first hand is something else.

Arrived at Rothen's house around 4 and he was busy working on a fish painting for me.

We decided to go out for dinner to sample some of Wisconsin's finest cheese curds. After dinner Rothen told me it just so happened to be his friend's birthday and he invited me to a bonfire to celebrate. Talk about perfect timing!

We threw an old coffee table onto the fire

At the party I got to meet this very energetic pitbull who reminded me a lot of RedHeron's dog. He was so wiggly it was impossible to get a good picture of him haha

Day 5 - Sunday, July 15th

Drove to Chicago! It takes a very long time to drive anywhere when you get close to Chicago. Also there's a lot of billboards?a noticeable amount, consecutively. It was pretty gross.

This isn't even the worst of it. There were a few parts where there were even more on BOTH sides.

Spotted this gem while driving through Chicago:

Apparently it's been closed for a long time but nobody has bothered to take the sign down yet.

When I finally made it to guou's house she pampered me with delicious food and I showed her how to use matrix on her phone.

Day 6 - Monday, July 16th

Woke up at 8:30 in Chicago and calculated my ETA into Ohio before hopping into the shower. Realized there was going to be a change of time zone and was like "oh shit I need to leave now or else I'll be late" and left wearing the same dirty clothes I'd been wearing since Wisconsin.

Stopped at the store along the way to buy some new shampoo (I forgot my original bottle of shampoo in Slimegirl's house D:) and was greeted by this scary rat.

By complete accident I passed by the 80/20 headquarters on the way through northern Indiana because I set my GPS to avoid toll roads. I wish I had more time, otherwise I would have stopped and bought messed up pieces for super cheap.

Around noon the sky dumped pouring rain on me to the point where I could barely see the cars in front of me.

Fortunately I was hungry for lunch and stopped to get some food and do a deployment for a client.

When I finally made it to Ohio I hung out with Persistence from PIBDGAF and his vagabond train hopping hobo friends. We drank some booze and watched anime night.

Bonus Pic (my favorite street in Ohio):

Day 7 - Gris n Family - Tuesday, July 17th

Woke up at 8:30 in Ohio and finally took a shower. I'm glad I waited to take a shower and didn't change my clothes for 3 days because it made me feel more at home with the grungy train hopping hobos. Started driving to Buffalo to meet up with Gris and along the way this weirdo in a black SUV started dumping shredded pieces of paper into the road.

After driving for several hours straight my car harassed me about taking a break, which I eventually did to take a picture of Lake Erie. The vastness of the horizon captivated me.

Ahh... the true New York experience. Getting nickle and dimed as soon as you enter the state.

When I got to Gris' house he gave me the tour of the property and showed me all the things he's been complaining about to me for the past decade. Good timing too, because his grandpa died without paying off the mortgage and the bank is taking the property in a few months. R I P

We set up my solar panel in his back yard and checked out this cool unintentional art thing his mom made by spray painting flowers

At 5 Gris and I went to get tacos at a local place he recommended, then I continued my journey to my Aunt and Uncle's house in Rochester. Check out this badass tree house my Uncle made for his kids!

Rachel is going 75mph down the highway. Two jersey cars passed her at the same time, one on each side. Then they tried to merge into each other in front of us.

Jersey traffic is like a ballet of stupid happening all around us.
