Feedback from new user <TOKEN003>
« on: July 02, 2023, 11:35:50 am »
Good afternoon,
I read https://wetfishonline.com/forum/index.php?topic=3844.msg24142;topicseen#new <- this thread to someone who is very new to Wetfish. I will call her TOKEN003. Her immediate response to the first post was "I would like a girl blog where I can post girly things. People can react or thumbs up but it doesn't get cluttered with interaction, like a chat." I pointed out what she was describing is a forum.

She knows the forum exists but she cannot join, because the captcha is broken. She wants to post on the forums, but can't.

She also suggested "a vent channel, where just anyone can say whatever they want". What she is describing is #freefish, which she doesn't know exists.

My question: is the existence of channels a purposeful secret, that a new user should interact with the community to find? Or does there need to be a listing posted somewhere near the webchat. TOKEN003 currently uses the chat at https://chat.wetfish.net/#/ - also, I just loaded that page and tried to connect with it - the green connect button just doesn't do anything anymore. it might be slightly greyed out

btw is there a way to upload images when you post on the forums? i mostly  hotlink from discord - thats why so many of my image posts die. I know there's "a wiki" and "anyone can upload to the wiki" but I don't really know if 1) that's intended for memes 2) my actual login for that 3) the process of uploading to it 4) how to even learn that process because nothing here is documented.

So I just let my links rot.

Anyway, this is my response to the https://wetfishonline.com/forum/index.php?topic=3844.msg24142;topicseen#new post because its proposing a very expensive way of increasing wetfish's usability, *maybe*, while ignoring fixes that could *definitely* make wetfish accessible to new users.

Also, does wetfish WANT new users? or just increase its utility to existing users? I know people say "oh we like new people!!!!" but THIS SITE IS SO HARD TO USE, EVERYTHING IS A HACK!!!!!

to clarify: the button being "slightly greened out" and no error message dispilayed and the thing just NOT connecting but NOT giving the user any troubleshooting steps - (but an experienced user might be able to guess!!) is a LARGE USABILITY ISSUE

user TOKEN003  has tried to "see if the captcha is working maybe". But the username she types is "unavailable". However, when she tries to recover lost password with email, it says "this account has not been activated"

user TOKEN003 has found the "resend activation email" page. There are no messages with "wetfish" in the email in her inbox, or in spam/trash. She filled out the resend activation email page. The resulting page was "a new activation email has been sent" but nothing comes thru

Now she is gonna make a new account with a different email and see if that works. I will keep you posted.

Oh she's trying to do the fish catch captcha

The new account has successfully been made. Quote: "I might've typed my email address in wrong, I don't know."

Thank you for your feedback!

She knows the forum exists but she cannot join, because the captcha is broken. She wants to post on the forums, but can't.

Good news! The captcha is now fixed on mobile devices. The captcha has always worked on computers, however mobile devices needed to be handled a little differently.

She also suggested "a vent channel, where just anyone can say whatever they want". What she is describing is #freefish, which she doesn't know exists.

There is also #feelings, which is a channel for venting your feelings in a welcoming environment.

My question: is the existence of channels a purposeful secret, that a new user should interact with the community to find?

Due to the unmoderated nature of #freefish we do not encourage new users to join there.

TOKEN003 currently uses the chat at https://chat.wetfish.net/#/ - also, I just loaded that page and tried to connect with it - the green connect button just doesn't do anything anymore. it might be slightly greyed out

Sometimes DNS issues can cause the web chat to not work. You can work around this by connecting to one of our chat servers directly. For example, https://future.wetfish.net is one of our chat servers. This issue happens because we use a DNS round robin for chat.wetfish.net. A permanent solution to this issue would be to use redirects to individual chat servers instead of a DNS round robin, but this will take some additional time to develop. Keep nagging me and it will happen eventually I promise!

Yep! You can upload files onto the wiki. The wiki is full of memes already so no worries there. You don't need to log into the wiki, anyone can edit pages and upload files without registering an account. Simply go to https://wiki.wetfish.net/upload to upload files (or https://wet.fish/upload if you want to type less)
