One of the interesting background elements of the video game Killer 7 are the Smiths tie ins.  You play as a group of assassins: Harman Smith, Garcian Smith, Dan Smith, KAEDE Smith, Coyote Smith, Kevin Smith (who doesn't say anything), Con Smith, and MASK de Smith.  This doesn't appear to mean anything in the game until this pops up:

The game's plot is nearly incomprehensible (a detail that unfortunately was not fixed in the 2018 remake), but is interesting none the less.  You play as the before mentioned Smiths, who all share the same body, contracting as an assassin for the American government.  You are actually working for God (or at least the Western incarnation of such) who is locked in an unending conflict with His Eastern counterpart.  During the course of the game, you discover that the Japanese have been fixing American elections since our founding and that the secret of who you really are ties into that.

I've concluded that the game is a commentary on violence as an institution in America vs. that in Japan.  These themes are particularly potent in the post-9/11 world in which the game was made, an event that the game indirectly addresses.  The gameplay itself has been praised/criticized for being obtuse (something that I didn't mind).  I felt that the gameplay was a criticism of the idea of "realism" in video games, something that is also evident in incomplete graphical elements, like missing seams between walls and ceilings.

Anyway, if you're up for a game that will challenge how you think, this game is for you.  If you just want games that are conventionally fun, watch some commentaries on YouTube to get an idea of what it's about.
